Issue #20791: Food buffs becoming permanent in survival

I've noticed in survival mode that the buffs from food in survival mode can sometimes end up being permanent. I'm not exactly sure what it is that causes this, I've heard that it can happen if you go to sleep with a bunch of buffs active, but I don't know for sure because I don't usually notice this until hours later. For example, my character has three strength so his carry weight is normally 105. So occasionally, I'd eat a grilled radstag to increase it 130. But at some point, about 10 hours in, I've noticed that my carry weight is a bit higher than normal as I also wear pocketed armor. So I take the armor off and see that I don't have any active buffs or perks or anything like that that could increase my carry weight, my strength is still at three, but for some reason, my character still has a carry weight of 130, without the grilled radstag in the active effects section.

I've noticed that it also happens with food that increases your special stats such as deathclaw steaks as today, I saw that I had seven agility rather than the usual six and I don't have any equipment adding to my agility and I wasn't well-rested or had any agility related buffs, so I guess that bug is affecting my agility. But as far as I know, it doesn't seem to happen with chems but I personally don't use chems that much so I don't know about that. When I looked online, it seems like people have had trouble with this bug since the survival beta.

I'd be really appreciative if this could be fixed because I've restarted several times because of the experience feeling somewhat cheaper because of this bug.

It seems as though buffs and debuffs stick around after the effects wear off in the pip boy on survival mode in the same way my perception is permanently damaged because of the thirst debuff. I decided to see if there was anything else sticking around and it seems that the Yao Guai roast melee buff (which is also incorrectly stated to give +10 melee damage but rather gives +500% melee damage increase) is not active in the pip boy but somehow Kremvh's Tooth has a damage value of 490+...

I suppose the best thing to do now is either avoid food that modifies your stats like the plague (Or install a mod that takes those out if that exists) or just be extra careful with those.

I don't see anything in the CK that should be changing how this works just because you're in survival mode. I strongly suspect this to be an engine bug that should be reported to Bethesda via their feedback form.

Is it possible that this //could// be fixed by the unofficial patch? By now it looks like Bethesda isn't going to be fixing it.

This bug appears no matter what difficulty setting you play on; it's just more likely to happen in survival mode since you must sleep to save the game. In other game modes sleeping really serves no purpose and is rarely done, so this issue isn't as prevalent there. Survival mode players are also more likely to notice and care about it since they play survival for the challenge, and getting infinite stacking buffs really defeats that..

Unfortunately this is not an issue we can fix. There is nothing in the available CK data that makes exceptions for the survival mode of the game. This will need to be dealt with by Bethesda if it's ever going to get fixed at all.
