Issue #34546: Reproducible solution to "Old Guns" halted progression
So this one's almost as fun as the hidden fusion core that made Colter immortal.
Old Guns: "Build and Assign Artillery." This objective should instantly complete with a HUD message as soon as the selected NPC enters the Artillery furniture. In my experience, it usually does. However there has been a recurring issue where the objective does not complete, even with one or more Artillery pieces assigned for any length of time: talking to Ronnie only repats the "go build big gun" dialogue, and continues to sandbox in the courtyard near the radio tower. There is a Vanilla Guard Tower between the Castle and the building used as a test target for the artillery shot. Users have actually reported that "moving the guard tower to the right fixes the issue because Ronnie needs to see the building." This is, of course, entirely bogus as the issue is 1) nothing to do with the NPC's vision cone, and 2) the damn thing isn't even in her way anyway. On a whim, I scrapped the guard post. Objective instantly completed. Quest progressed. HOW ARE THESE EVEN CONNECTED Reloaded previous save and replicated this behaviour three times. |
..... forgot to mention: I usually don't leave that guard tower standing..In most playthroughs, by the time the Old Guns quest starts, I have already scrapped it.
This time around I am on this quest earlier than usual - shortly after taking the castle I came right back and Ronnie was there before I'd built anything else - and the guard post was still intact.
Moreover since just picking it up and putting it down again seems to work too, this possibly tracks with many, but not all, players experiencing this issue: if you've scrapped or moved it ahead ot time, whatever mysterious Quantum Entanglement connects the artillery objective with this freaking wooden platform wouldn't be in effect.

Scrapping or building objects lets the workshop recalculate its resource values.
The quest looks for a specific resource value that should update when the guns are manned.
It thus looks as if manning the guns does not always result in the resource values being updated as expected.
