Issue #10408: Totally dumb bribing at Whiterun's gate (fix provided)
In the beginning of the game, when arriving at Whiterun's gate for the first time, a guard stops the player.
Several answers possible, and a bribing option that is totally dumb : no test behind, no gold removal, and impossible to fail. Should be more elaborated or totally canceled by setting an impossible condition. I chose the second option because this is the most pertinent choice at this point of the game. Here is the fix. Savegame provided at the right point. Only Dawguard and HearthFire were enabled. |

Well, I should have investigated more :
In the savegame I provided (in the first attachment archive) my playing character has NO GOLD AT ALL, can bribe the guard ANYWAY, succeeds and (of course) no gold is removed... That is the real bug.
If the playing character can afford to bribe the guard (meaning he has the required amount of gold) he succeeds and gold is properly removed, no problem.
Thus nevermind my previous post, this time I only added to the topic a small condition on bribing success. As the devs designed this, it is still impossible to fail (would need a new topic creation for that), but now the option is displayed ONLY when the PC can afford it.
New fix in second attachment.

If the gold isn't being taken from the player, that's the only real bug here. NONE of the speech options can be failed other than the intimidate. I've always assumed this is because it's more or less a "newbie" version of this sort of thing since if you're following the plot on the rails you'll arrive at Whiterun very shortly after going through Helgen and Riverwood.
Well, why not ? Interesting point of view. Should add a player's owned gold amount condition and a tiny script to remove it properly afterwards.
Yeah, so as it turns out the bribe and persuade options were both completely botched.
