Issue #12086: When siding with the vampires, it is not possible to sell the Elder Scrolls to Dexion.

If you side with the Volkihar clan, then there is no way to remove the three Elder Scroll items (Dragon, Blood and Sun) without using the console. Siding with the Dawnguard allows you to sell the Blood and Sun scrolls to Dexion Evicus, but the other faction offers no such option (an oversight, perhaps? Can't think of a reason why this should be Dawnguard faction exclusive). There is no way to get rid of the Dragon scroll at all, however.

Perhaps Beth wanted the player to keep the dragon scroll so that disposing of it won't prevent the vanilla main questline completition. If you've already completed the vanilla MQ, then I see no reason for keeping the scroll.

Ooh yes, I should probably add that I had bought back the scroll from Urag gro-Shub (I wonder if you can still sell it after Dawnguard if you previously haven't done so?).

I think you're right though, it's probably something to stop people from permanently ruining the main quest. It just seems there's nothing in place for when you've completed both questlines and you've sided with the vampires.

Technically-speaking, it is impossible that Dawnguard's new scrolls be edited by anything that doesn't have it as a master; the probability of Beth doing an add-on to Dawnguard is very low.

So, it is fine to allow vampire players to discard the scrolls via Dexion.

The vanilla scroll is still required for the main quest, and may be donated to Urag once the main quest no longer requires it. However, purchasing the scroll back from him leaves the variable necessary to sell it to him set at "sold the scroll". It would be prudent to reset this variable once Dawnguard no longer requires the scroll, allowing Urag to purchase it again.

I think the better question is how are they still held as quest objects when the only referencing quests I can find that hold aliases for them are both shut down long before you end the Dawnguard MQ on either side.

There must be another one in play somewhere but I can't find it.

My personal feeling is that once you've completed the quest line on either side, why should you be forced to sell? Wouldn't they be cool to display in your house or something? Canceling their quest item status would let you do that OR sell them or just drop them in a ditch if you want.

I'd love to display them in my house! So +1 for cancelling their quest item status. However, I'm sure others would like to sell them, so Dexion sounds like a good plan for vampire players.

Forced references should still show up as being referenced by a quest in the CK. Provided the scrolls aren't simply being forced into a "NONE" ref along the way. Which is possible, and also very difficult to track down.

I wouldn't expect another DLC to involve the use of the scrolls again, but this isn't exactly high priority. No harm will be done in waiting to address this later.

Going with the safe option and enabling the possibility to sell the Blood and Sun scrolls to Dexion.

Selling the Dragon scroll (1st or 2nd time) is a separate issue.
