Issue #12358: Inverted lighting on Iron armor

(sleeveless, but might be both) iron armors from uskp have inverted lighting on shoulder and leg parts. the appear illuminated on the opposite side. disabling uskp solves this.

(this NPC is from a mod, the armor is vanilla however)

it's the Steel armor of course. sorry for that

The only time steel armor was touched was waaaay back in v1.0, to fix some gaps and weighting, and only on the female.

Can't tell in your pic if that's male or female, but if it was USKP causing this people would have noticed before now.

Needs further investigating.

VaultDuke said:

it's male. i'll check it out with my char myself and see what happens

VaultDuke said:

ok, this is what i gather:
female armor is ok,
both male armors are messed up.
no light shines on the leathery upper leg protection part, and the parts on the shoulders have switched sides. the pauldrons on the pauldron armor behave correctly, yet the original fur shoulder part is still underneath and has the same lighting issue.

i checked with a PC character using the IDs for both steel armors from the uesp to spawn them. then switched sexes with the console.

further check with BSAopt: the uskp bsa (which is the culprit of this issue) does indeed have meshes for both sexes (*cuirass* files in both armor/steel and armor/steel/f)

edit: any yes, the issue is new with 1.3.1 beta.
it's undocumented it seems

Well that's interesting. Thanks for checking! I'll look into it. :)

My bad - this ticket was originally filed during the 3 days we lost off the database due to my butterfingers database hacking.

Quarn submitted the fixed files by email, with the following comment:

This enables double sided texturing on the male steel armor (female
versions have it enabled already) to fix the "nothingness" you can see on
the fur parts of the armor.

I guess in all the confusion I also forgot to changelog it. Affected files:

Meshes\Armor\steel\cuirasslight_1.nif
Meshes\Armor\steel\cuirasslight_0.nif
Meshes\Armor\steel\cuirass_1.nif
Meshes\Armor\steel\cuirass_0.nif

was this also done for frost trolls?

because i saw the loading screen with the bone gnawing frost toll
http://images.uesp.net/2/24/SR-load-Trolls_regenerate_health.jpg
(or maybe the other one. don't remember. is there a way to force vertain load screens with console commands?)
and it had a visible light difference on it's beard between the parts that hang free and the parts that are attached to the face.

maybe there is some kind of lighting/back lighting/double sided lighting flag set wrong?

Hana said:

It was done on quite a few things, as I understand, including the trolls. And yes, they'll need to be double checked.

I'm beginning to believe it's an issue enabling double-sided on alpha textures.

VaultDuke said:

which would mean all edits quarn did for this submission...
i hope you can solve it some way, because if i'm not seeing placebos, the cow looks clearly better

Arthmoor said:

The only files submitted for this fix on Feb 7 were for steel armor. Nothing else. No trolls, no cows, no pile of other stuff. Just 4 files for the steel armor.

There are more things, see Issue #12047. Same fixes.

ok, just came here to point out, that this bug went live with the release of 1.3.1.

i hope it gets fixed with the next release.

Hana, did you take a look at the other meshes?
i think the issue is less pronounced with animals. maybe it isn't even there.
at least they didn't strike me as odd, but it's hard to get them to stand still next to a fire place, so who knows? :-D

Hana said:

I looked at a few of them, I'm trying to determine which meshes were involved and/or contact Quarn to have them fixed. They should have come out of 1.3.1 altogether for now but 1.9 snuck up on us too fast.

Alright. These, along with the troll stuff, have been pulled from the release with the 1.3.1a hotfix. Carry on :P
