Issue #22273: Cambridge Polymer Labs "Complete the research project" objective listed as failed

 
Even if you complete the project and get the unique Piezonucleic power armor chest, the objective is shown as failed in the pip boy.

One way to fix using console:

CompleteAllObjectives 284bc
CompleteAllObjectives DN015

but you'll need to enter it BEFORE turning in the quest to Molly, otherwise will not work.

I did this quest 3 times in different playthroughs and every time it concluded successful. I always do this quest with Curie as companion, because this is something she 'loves'. But I do not think that Curie is the reason it succeeds. You are leaving out a step, I think. Because afterwards I always are invited to see the chief scientist (which is a ghoul in the meantime and attacks, and leads to a funny scene). Then the robot deactivates itself, and this ends the quest. I did the quest always before nuking the Institute.
