Issue #25519: Farengar Odahviing scene still plays even if he had been killed during Mephala quest

Here is relative references...

FarengarSecretFire "Farengar Secret-Fire" [NPC_:00013BBB]
MQ303 "The World-Eater's Eyrie" [QUST:00046EF0]
MQ303FarengarOdahviingScene [SCEN:000E89C0]
DA08 "The Whispering Door" [QUST:0004A37B]

During MQ303 where Odahviing is captured - Farengar comes out and goes behind wing to pull out a scale from Odahviing. This scene plays out even if Farengar has been killed prior to this during the Mephala quest DA08.
I killed Farengar to get the key to the whispering door and get the Ebony Blade. Later I continued the main quest and trapped Odahviing in Dragonsreach. That scene plays without Farengar. He is not present and you only hear Odahviing's lines - Ireleth says her line too. But no Farengar.
Everything progresses just fine - it is just strange knowing he is dead and that scene still plays.

This cannot be happening anymore with USSEP installed since we fixed this way back in USKP 1.2.4 and the fix remains in place to this day. Assuming you're not playing on PS4 of course, because then it would still be possible since the fix required a script edit.

The other possibility is that you have something overwriting the scripts from MQ303 that didn't incorporate our fix.

After the forum post on this subject, it appears as though the check done in USKP 1.2.4 is insufficient because if Farengar is dead long enough, his alias won't fill here, and the call will return 0 and be interpreted as though he's alive. The script has been modified to make sure the alias is filled first before checking to see if he's dead. If it's not filled we're going to assume he's been killed and block the scene.
