Issue #28849: Blood Bugs seem invunerable to unarmed attacks
So initially on this "brawler" play through I though I was doing something wrong since insects in general are a pain to deal with but I began to notice that seemingly on particular group I had real issues fighting. It seems that blood bugs can get in a state during while fighting them that they no longer seem to take damage. I could use vats to attack them until they would get down to that last little bit of health (screenshot), then seem to no longer take damage. They do die but I am not sure from what, since I have a companion with me all the time I don't know once I disengage if the game decides they should die, or if my companion is shooting them. This is especially bad if the variant is a legendary type.
It seems that if I attack in VATS and don't use any crits I can get it to occur. Once they are in this state I can crit them or just continue to vats attack but they simple don't seem to be registering damage anymore. This is not rare by the way it happens a lot with unarmed attacks. Attached save file taken just before encountering 2 of them. Did some more testing on this, and it appears to be related primarily to using VATS. Also I am not sure if this is even something this project could even address.
You can get this to occur using unarmed attacks in VATS, as long as the first HIT is not a one shot kill. You can attack them repeatedly in VATS and see that last little sliver of health on the displayed health bar at which point the enemies appear to no longer take damage. If you break out of VATS and run away a short distance it seems to reset something such that they take damage again and can be killed.

Yep. If this is an issue specifically with VATS it isn't something we can deal with since that's either UI or engine related.
