Issue #31473: Super Duper Mart - Emma Expires

Much like Margaret Sutton used to be, Emma's 16275C body expires and despawns, but you don't actually have to enter Super Duper Mart for it to happen, just load the grid of which Super Duper Mart building resides. Just let a fair amount of time pass by after visiting Corvega for your first MM quest and she will not be there. She carries a lore holotape.

Bug is listed in the WiKi:

Correction, I was originally looking in the wrong spot for her this play through. It is not the interior cell of Super Duper Mart, it is in the garage where the basement exit resides which makes much more logical sense. It still falls true that her body expires and despawns.

This was already supposedly fixed by the patch (Bug #20320). We're going to need to know if you had the UFO4P enabled from the moment you started your game. The fix is non-retroactive.

I started a fresh new game with the newest patch on Nexus post date June 5, 2021, Pete. I know from Margaret Sutton a new game has to be started to fix spawn expirations. Margaret did remain spawned correctly with the newest patch, BTW. I usually don't go in there until later, but of course Corvega gets done early, so a couple months in game time.

A word of note though, Pete, I can't see the body even if passing by because this is one of those instances where even though it's an external cell, there's a garage door that must be opened from the inside to see her. Maybe she's not actually expiring, but simply not spawning correctly in the first place.

Weird. Arthmoor marked DN068 to "start game enabled" which should have fixed the issue of both of the NPCs despawning prematurely. I looked and the flag is still there. There may not be anything further we can do here, because it's impossible to fix something that is already fixed.

Edit: Yeah, I guess her not spawning to begin with is another possibility. Although I thought maybe we had been through that before as well. Going to leave this open just in case there's something else we've missed.

Yeah, very strange. Another option that may be even harder to find is if there's some sort of cut content legacy script altering her and Josh's object because Josh's is holotape issue is really strange. Not a big deal or a game breaking bug, I just figured I'd report it.

I'm not sure what DN068 does that was expected to prevent the NPCs from despawning, but I happened across a different NPC that starts dead in a resetting cell yet doesn't despawn, and can quickly see why: [ACHR:000637E1] (places DN059_Ricca "Ricca" [NPC_:001079AF] in GRUP Cell Temporary Children of CollegeSquareExt02 [CELL:0000DFA6] (in Commonwealth "Commonwealth" [WRLD:0000003C] at -8,3)) has "XEZN - Encounter Zone" set to NoResetZone [ECZN:00190B28]. If Josh and Emma were changed to use this, they'd probably remain as well.

I just made the adjustments that the Unofficial Patch did for 18C567 in front of Hubris which is add *Persistent in Worldspace record flags. Obviously already had Starts Dead. Hopefully that fixes it.

It's not so simple a thing to set the encounter zone or to fiddle with the persistence flag. What we have here is simply an older fix that needed more done to make it complete.

Normally holding a dead NPC in an alias is enough to keep their corpse from being culled by the game's cleanup routines. Apparently at some point along the way with Fallout 4, that culling got more aggressive and those aliases for those corpses also need to have the "Quest Object" flag set. That is why 18C567 isn't being culled - the persistence flag is irrelevant.

It's clear that someone at BGS was trying to work out a way to keep corpses from being culled before they could be reached, but what they did for Ricca isn't enough either. It has nothing to do with the cell respawn. Corpse culling happens much faster than the cell reset.

In any case, DN068 now flags Josh and Emma both as being quest objects. When the holotapes are collected, stages get set to indicate this, and it shuts down when DN068 is done. Once that happens they'll be culled as normal. Which is something you want to happen.
