Issue #31599: Trader Rylee cannot be recruited

I tried to recruit Trader Rylee in two different ways:

1. After entering Longneck Lukowski's Cannery for the first time, talk to Trader Rylee after she finishes talking to Teo but before she exits. This presented the "work for me" option but she answered "I'm confused" when I selected it.

so I loaded an earlier save and this time did not talk to Rylee before she left, but instead remained in the cannery and finished the quest Mystery Meat. I ended up killing Teo to conclude it.

2. After that, Trader Rylee sporadically appears at camp-style random encounter locations, but in the dialog the "work for me"-option never appears when I talk to her

In this playthrough I fulfill general requirements for recruiting special merchants, and had all others like The Scribe, Doc Anderson, Smiling Larry etc

I know you said you meet the requirements for recruiting special merchants, but make sure you meet the requirements specified in the comment in this ticket: https://afktrack.afkmods.com/index.php?a=issues&i=24925

The second issue was fixed by the patch.
Random encounters for Ron Staples, Doc Anderson, and Trader Rylee (RECampKMK02, RECampKMK01, RECampKMK_DN079B) could still start up even after they'd been recruited because the script event manager was not properly respecting the alias requirements to allow these to start up. (Issue #22397)

I have large network of settlements, many with several settlers (and some with few). Several of those settlements have Trading Emporiums in them.

I've had no issues recruiting the other special traders. Nor have I found them at random encounters later. With the exception of Rylee, it all works really smoothly with your patch, which I am very happy about!

So the option "work for me?" does not appear if one does not fulfill the requirements. In the bug you linked (22397), it says "A matching vendor stand must already exist at the workshop."

But I guess this means at "any" workshop, i.e., you must have that built the proper store in at least one of your settlements (and meet the other requirements about size (num settlers/num settlments). If you meet those the option appears and you can then send the trader to any of your settlements. If the closest settlement to where the encounter happens has the store or not, does not matter, right?

Here's a save where I'm standing with Trader Rylee near Abernathy Farm. She cannot be recruited as she should. I don't know if it helps, but decided to post it since I got it.

Trader Rylee has always said "I'm confused" every time I recruited her but I do get the popup to assign her to a settlement. and it does work. Did you get the pop up?

Also I always follow her outside to do the recruitment as well. So it is possible that if you did not get the popup and did it inside that could be causing this behavior.

I got the "I'm confused" response only that time when I talked to her immediately inside the cannery. I don't think I got the settlement popup, but I am not sure. As I mentioned in this bug report, I loaded an earlier save when that happened, so don't know what would have happened later.

And, after loading an earlier save, when I came to cannery, this time I let her leave without trying to talk to her and this way she show up at random encounter camp sites, but the "work for me"-option never appears.

I have another character, though, who has not gone to the cannery yet, but is strong enough to reach the area. I will try the "immediate recruit" again and see what happens.

Recruiting her later clearly needs an additional fix for it to work reliably. I don't know if you are supposed to be able to recruit her inside (before even doing or starting Mystery Meat), but if that should work, I suppose not getting a "I'm confused" response would be good

I tried the immediate recruit-strategy on my other character again (talk to really inside the cannery before she leaves after she talks to Theo).

The conversation options go:
Sick People
Vault 81
Work for me?

Popup appears and I select a settlement.

She responds "I'm confused" but does show up at the settlement. You were right.

So this will have to be my workaround until she can be recruited more reliably!
