Issue #31601: Hunting the Hunter step affects dialogue initiation with other NPCs

During the quest Hunting the Hunter, given by Dejen, after killing the courser and the next step is "Talk to Dejen", it seems any NPC I try to initiate a conversation, I say "Hey Dejen". Including my companion (Nick Valentine) and it also prevented me from turning in the quest Data Recovery to Faraday as well. Seen while playing a female character, if that matters.

Forgot to add, after turning in the quest to Dejen, which I could do without issue, the problem disappeared

After killing the courser in Hunting the Hunter (DLC03AcadiaM02) every NPC the player tries to speak to will result in the player simply saying "Hey, Dejen" until the quest is completed. The greeting in the quest needed a target to make sure that prompt only ran when the NPC is Dejen. (Bug #24096)

This was fixed in UFO4P version 2.0.4. I checked and the fix is still in place. See Issue #24096.

I am running the latest released version of UFO4P and I got this issue

So it seems this bug can still trigger. What I did was:

1. Kill the courser
2. Before handing in the quest or talking to any NPC, I went to pick up the storage drives for Data Recovery (and I interacted with the chest that needs a key)
3. Went to Longfellow's cabin to sleep
4. After sleeping I tried talking to Nick, my companion, then I noticed the issue

I managed to find a save showcasing this problem. Initiate conversation with Nick, select "Talk" and the sole survivor will say "Hey, Dejen"

So here's what I figured out.

If at any point you started Dejen's quest before the UFO4P fix was applied, the response is broken. Apparently dialogue responses bake into the save at a deep level once a quest is active. No amount of poking at it, including testing impossible conditions, was able to correct it once it had happened.

But, if you've never done the quest yet, the fix we did in 24096 DOES work. I just ran through it with my own long term save. Killed the courser, and then went running around doing all manner of random things and talking to people everywhere I could. The "Hey, Dejen" response did not trigger on anyone except Dejen himself when I finally came back to turn his quest in.

Given that, this one is conclusively already fixed. So it's time to close it as a duplicate.
