DLC2AshSpawnRace (0401B637) is flagged as "ActorTypeDwarven".
Wouldn't "actorTypeUndead" make more sense?

It's come up before and we determined it best left alone based on certain dialogue conditions and other functions relating to absorbing spells. Game mechanics wise, it's not relevant how it accomplishes what it does.
