Resolution: Can't Fix - Engine Issue

Issue #344: NPCs using "hello" or "goodbye" dialog to the player will follow the player through load doors

If an NPC is using a hello or goodbye dialog to the player (dialog not said in conversation but when the player approaches or after conversation ends) and the player changes cells, i.e. into an interior, the NPC will follow instantaneously. If they aren't supposed to be in the cell they follow into (i.e. if they follow the player into their house) they will then leave.

I didn't notice this behavior at all before the 1.2 patch, so I flagged it as such.

It can be easily caused to happen in Whiterun where numerous NPCs including guards pass close enough to the player's home (Breezehome) to use their hello lines while the player is within activation range of the load door. If you enter Breezehome while the line is playing, you'll find the NPC in there too.

It can also be caused to happen with goodbye dialog after bartering with a shopkeeper. Exit their shop quickly as their goodbye line is playing and you'll find them outside their shop.

This can cause minor bugs too. In Morthal, you can lure the children into the inn with this, and they will get stuck inside. They won't leave, unless you zone them out with the same bug.

Yup, just confirming it has happened since game release, and is still happening on latest patch 1.3.10.0.

It's annoying and illogical. When I go into my residence, if some yahoo is talking to me randomly, I'm going to shut the door in his face and lock it behind me, not allow him to wander in as he pleases so he can finish spouting his mindless drivel at me :sigh:

To the best of my recollection, I haven't had a quest starting HELLO in ~ 230 hours.

Nice find thanks.

Also confirmed that this affects goodbye lines as well, tested with several shopkeepers who will pop outside their store following the player if the player leaves while the goodbye is playing.

Closing this one out as it's not possible to fix via the USKP. The behavior is controlled at the engine level.
